The Laurel Cut Glass Co. was first organized on January 30, 1903, as the German Cut Glass Co. On December 10, 1906, the firm took the name of Kohinur Cut Glass Co. The name of the corporation changed back to Laurel Cut Glass Co. on April 26, 1907. In 1917 the corporation became a part of the Cut Glass Corp. of America, which went out of business in 1920. Oblong 8vo, illustrated grey card covers, lettered in black. Repproduction of an undated [circa 1905] Èmpire Cut Glass Co. catalogue. The cut glass business was brought to Flemingtonto solve an economic problem. Flemington needed a factory that would hire and pay local workers. In 1902, the Empire Cut Glass Company moved to Flemington. The glass they made was expensive and only sold in jewelry stores. Four years later, in 1906, two men who worked at the Empire Cut Glass factory decided to start a business of their own. In 1908, they named their company Flemington Cut Glass. Very good. 25.00

Oblong 8vo,illustrated grey stapled card covers, lettered in black. Reproduction of a n undated catalogue. "Before Charles F. Monroe opened a glass shop in Meriden, Connecticut, he worked as designer for the Meriden Flint Glass Company.In this job. he traveled to Europe for the company. In 1B80, Monroe operat ed a glass shop, selling mostly imported glassware. He expanded this to include artist's materials, oil paintings, art goods, decorative vases, art glassware, and a line of bnc-a-brac. He also ottered lessons in china and glass decorating. By 1891, he converted a group of buildings into his glass decorating works. Since the business prospered, he added another five-story building. Not until 1903 did Monroe construct a three-story building for useprimarily as a glass cutting shop. At that time, the company employed over 200 people, including glass cutters (apprentices and masters) and designer s. Carl V. Helmschmied assigned a patented design on May 13. 1902. to the C. F. Monroe Company. No other assignments to the company have appeared in the patent records. The company liquidated about 1916. Monroe became foremanfor the E. Miliar & Company. manufacturers of gas and electrical fixtures. The later company occupied the site until 1923." (Foreword). Very good. 15 .00
