"When in Canada he never tired of speaking of Koreans and the Korean Mission. When in Korea he gladly ly accepted any task assigned to him. When the door to Korea was closed to Canadian Presbyterians, he seized the work that was proffered — ministry to the Koreans in Japan. But wherever he went, he left the marks of zeal and diligence, dedication and love, that are still to be seen nearly thirty years after his ministry came to an end. He used to tell his children "When you get to Heaven, look for me among the Koreans". That he would be there, and that the Koreans whom he loved would also be there, he never doubted, and neither can anyone who traces the story of his life and witness." - p.12. BAXTER, Richard. The Saints Everlasting Rest : or, A Treatise Of the blessed State of the Saints in their enjoyment of God in Glory : Wherein is shewed its Excellency and Certainty; the Misery of those that lose it; the way to Attain it, and assurance of it; and how to live in the continual delightful Foretastes of it, by the help of Meditation. Written by the Author for his own use, in the time of his languishing, when God took him off from all Publikc Imployment; and afterwards Preached in his weekly Lecture: By Richard Baxter Teacher of the Church of Kederminster in Worcestershire. The Ninth Edition, Revised by the Author. London : Printed for Francis Tyton and Jane Underhill, and are to be sold at the Sign of the three Daggers in Fleet-street, and at the Anchor and Bible in St. Pauls Church-yard, 1662 [second 6 missing due to surface tear]. Pp (30),1-284,(4),285-404,409-836. 8vo, full brown calf. Richard Baxter (12 November 1615 – 8 December 1691) was an English Puritan church leader, poet, hymn-writer, theologian, and controversialist. Dean Stanley called him "the chief of English Protestant Schoolmen".After some false starts, he made his reputation by his ministry at Kidderm inster, and at around the same time began a long and prolific career as theological writer. After the Restoration he refused preferment, while retaining a non-separatist Presbyterian approach, and became one of the most influential leaders of the Nonconformists, spending time in prison. His views onjustification and sanctification are somewhat controversial within the Cal vinist tradition because his teachings seem, to some, to undermine salvation by faith, in that he emphasizes the necessity of repentance and faithfulness. Covers detached, lacking half of spine, heavy wear, title page and first few leaves chipped and browned, some brown stains and foxing throughout,a poor copy. As is. 150.00
