Doubleday, 1991, ISBN:0385411235 1991 0385411235 / 9780385411233
BIRD, Sarah. The Mommy Club. New York : Doubleday, (1991). First Printing. Pp (10),[1]-371,(1). 8vo, red cloth.

At thirty-eight, Trudy Herring is a dreamer, a sculptor of whimsical clay figures, and a permanent temporary worker at the San Antonio Museum of Folk Art. But all that changes when she agrees to incubate a child for Hillary Goettler (her boss) and Hillarys husband. Trudy moves into their mansion and is instantly thrust into a luxurious world shes never known before. While Hillary opines that parenthood is simply a time-management problem, Trudy is forced to consume obnoxiously healthy meals in a home where the decor changes faster than a Neiman Marcus window display. As her body warms to the other life inside, Trudy begins to long for her old flame, Sinclair Coker, a freelance mystic with a lot of enthusiasm for the carnal. The quest to satisfy her cravings leads Trudy to discover that it takes a lot more than war stories about childbirth and potty training for a woman to qualify for true membership in the mommy club.

125 BIRNBAUM, Henrik, and Michael S. FLIER (eds.). FLIER, Michael S. California Slavic Studies, Vol. 12. Medieval Russian Culture. First Edition in dustjacket
University of California Press, Berkeley / Los Angeles / London, 1984, ISBN:0520049381

Illustrated. Index. 8vo, black cloth, gilt lettering to spine. Vol. 12 in the California Slavic Studies seriies. Very good in nicked dustjacket. 50.00 "The fourteen essays in thisvolume assemble some of the most significant current research on medieval Russian culture by leading specialists in the Soviet Union and Eastern and Western Europe as well as the United States. The range of topics is wide - language and literature, art and architecture, religion and folk belief. Each essay provides an in-depth analysis of a single problem or set of problems that vary in scope from urban to rural, from social to individual. In this manner the volume evokes the richness and complexity of Russian culture before Peter the Great without sacrificing thoroughness and detail. Some ofthe contributions challenge received opinion on issues with a long traditi on of scholarly inquiry; others introduce materials analyzed for the first time. All are intended to stimulate further Western scholarship in an area of Russian studies which in recent years has been investigated most actively in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, students of Russian culture, and, because of its comparative value, to students of medieval European culture as well." (from the dj). Contents : Culture and Society : The Balkan Slavi c component of medieval Russian culture (by Henrik Birnbaum); The martyred prince and the question of slavic cultural continuity in the early middle ages (by Noman W. 131 BLASER, Robin Pell Mell
Coach House Press, Toronto, 1988, ISBN:0889103399
BLASER, Robin. Pell Mell. Toronto: The Coach House Press, (1988). Pp 113. 8vo, decorated grey, red and black card covers with black lettering to frontcover and spine. "These poems follow a principle of randonnee -- the rando m and the given of the hunt, the game, the tour. Thus, randonnee is anothertitle of this book, written, so to speak, in invisible ink. These poems ar e also a further movement in one long work that I call 'The Holy Forest', though that need not trouble the reader before the forest is full grown. Poems called 'Image-Nations' come and go throughout, never to become a complete nation. And 'Great Companions' of the art of poetry, a series which begins to gather here with Pindar and Robert Duncan, will continue until their voices close 'The Holy Forest'. That's the plot." - from the rear cover. Vg.Due to its small size, shipping costs should be cheaper than quoted. 25.00
