Pp. [i]- xvii,(1),[1-594]. Illustrated. 4to, illustrated blue card covers. "This monograph presents the results of several salvage field seasons (1972 to 1980)of prehistoric research on the north coast of the Gaspe Peninsula, Quebec. In this Archaeologically almost unknown region, 12 sites were excavated an d 45 others were surface collected on the terraces of the Goldthwait Sea between Les Mechins and Marsoui, in Grande-Valle, Riviere-au-Renard, and the Bay of Gaspe. This study is concerned with two preliminary aims of archaeology: to reconstruct the cultural sequence of the region and to understand some aspects of prehistoric adaptation. Detailed analysis of the sites and tools assemblages are presented. They indicate the area of research was settled between at least 6000 B.P. and the sixth century of our era. [...] It is argued that throughout the sequence a maritime adaptation prevailed, an adaptation which probably existed during the Paleo-Indian stage in the Northeast. For the Gaspe, a model of subsistence similar to that of the historical Micmacs is proposed." -from the abstract. Text in French. Creasing to covers, light rubbing to covers, else vg. BERLIN, Bernard. Call Heaven to Witness. Toronto :The Musson Book Company, (1970). First Edition. Pp (7),[8]-176. 8vo, red cloth. This Montreal author's first novel. "Jonathan Temple and his friend Arnie, the narrator of thisbook, have opened their law practice in Montreal, and are fully determined to be the best criminal lawyers anywhere in the World. From the time they were five years old, they were inseparable. Jonathan and Arnie lived next door to each other, played and fought together, attended the same school, discovered girls and became conscious of their own manhood; planned and dreamed of law through their years at university, and graduated from law school together. It is at this stage that Jonathan meets two women, one the vivacious young actress, whose zest for life enchants him, but she too is at the beginning of her career and this takes her away. The other, is a woman who possesses him, marries him, and finally destroys him, his friendship with Arnie, and their hard-earned dream. Bernard Berlin, a Canadian, blends, in this his fiist published novel, characters so real with predicaments so human, that one cannot help but wonder how many lives are similarly affected. What emerges is life as it is lived in Canada today." - from the dj. Very good in lightly rubbed, nicked dustjacket. 15.00

Illustrated. 4to, red cloth, gilt lettering to spine. "The post-Expo era of Canadian architecture has produced works of international importance which have been recognized in European, Japanese and American periodicals. Then, concentrating on major cities from coast to coast, they look at projects embodying alternative movements that are suggestive of possible future directions, projects such as: Corridart in Montreal; Robson Square in Vancouver; the Pavilion '70 ski chalet in St. Sauveur, Quebec; Toronto's Eaton Centre; Winnipeg's St .
