To repeat in substance what was stated in the "Guardian, these articles have been written as a pastime—mostly from memory, without drawing onthe imagination for adornment of a subject, nor ascribing top them literar y merit. 197 BRUCE, Marian Pets, Professors, and Politicians : The Founding and Early Years of the Atlantic Veterinary College. in dj.
Island Studies Press, Charlottetown, PEI, 2004, ISBN:0919013430 2004 0919013430 / 9780919013438
BRUCE, Marian. Pets, Professors, and Politicians : The Founding and Early Years of the Atlantic Veterinary College. Charlottetown : Island Studies Press, Atlantic Veterinary College, 2004. First Edition. Pp. (6),7-232, + 16 pages of colour plates. With 92 b&w photos in the text as well as other illustrations plus the colour photos . 8vo, black cloth with gilt lettering to spine.

"The story of the Atlantic Veterinary College goes back to the early 1970s, when veterinary staffing forecasts called for more veterinarians, and more capacity to train them. But how to address that need - and, more importantly, where - turned into nearly two decades of wrangling, controversy, and negotiations among federal and provincial politicians, government officials, and academics. Finally, on June 3, 1983, the deal to build the Atlantic Veterinary College at the University of Prince Edward Island was signed.

With a cast of colourful characters featuring the Hon. Eugene Whelan, federal minister of Agriculture, and several Atlantic premiers, including PEI's Alex Campbell and Jim Lee, Nova Scotia's John Buchanan, and New Brunswick's Richard Hatfield, to spine. Pets, Professors, and Politicians tells the story of the AVC, from its earliest beginnings to the present day. Full of stories and photos of people - and, of course, animals - this modern-day David and Goliath story is sure to inform, and entertain." - from the dj.
