David Bedford (b. 1954).

"Smooth fusions of rhythm and melody echo in this layered biography of Canada's best-known blues man, Dutch Mason. The uncontested 'Prime Minister of the Blues', Dutch has played with the likes of Junior Wells, James Cotton and John Lee Hooker. His passion for the blues has earned him the respect of music lovers everywhere. His immense popularity has made him one of the musical legends of our time.

Set against the backdrop of an imaginary ten-city tour - complete with a run of electrifying shows followed by all-night post-gig revelries -- Dutch's unbelievable but true stories bring to life his heyday on the Canadian blues scene. BENNION, Elisabeth. Antique Hearing Devices. London and Brighton: Vernier Press, (1994). First Printing. Pp. (4),v-vi,1-58. Illustrated in black and white. 8vo, pale blue illustrated card covers with dark blue titles to frontand spine. "Of the many causes of deafness, old age is but one. Some peopl e are born deaf, some achieve deafness and some have deafness thrust upon them. For each, a large part of life is henceforth denied them; full communication with others, the delights of music and sounds of the natural world, the warning sounds that presage danger, use of sometimes of technology, andmany another. Of these consequences it may be that the reaction of other p eople is the hardest to bear. The irritation of making themselves understood, attempts to quell the thought that the deaf must be certainly stupid andnot trying, often result in the other person reneging on efforts at commun ication altogether. The deaf are no less irritated and frequently exhaustedby their part in the dialogue. Since time and deafness began, the sympathy shown to the deaf has been a fraction of that shown to the blind. Emotions from peevishness to thorough bad temper have been the outcome of so many e ncounters. Attempts to alleviate this afflication have been slow. This monograph endeavours to show how, before the sophistication of modern electronic aids, the deaf found some help in articles of a rare and beautiful ingenuity." - from the rear cover.
