65 CAMMAERT, A.B., and D.B. MUGGERIDGE MUGGERIDGE, D.B. Ice Interaction with Offshore Structures. First printing in dustjacket
Van Nostrand Reinhold, New York, 1988, ISBN:0442216521
CAMMAERT, A.B., and D.B. MUGGERIDGE. Ice Interaction with Offshore Structures. New York : Van Nostrand Reinhold, (1988). First Printing. Pp (6),vii-xvi,1-432. Illustrated. Maps. Index. 8vo, grey cloth, brown lettering to spine. "The effect of ice is probably the single most significant concern for the designer of offshore structures - both fixed and floating - in Arctic regions. Structural mass and framework must withstand the extraordinary forces exerted both by continuous ice sheets and by intermittent formations suchas multi-year ridges and floes, rafted ice and icebergs. The encroachment of ice over and around the structure must also be minimized. Ice Interaction With Offshore Structures offers, in a single volume, extensive information regarding the general characteristics of the ice forms that an engineer will encounter in both northern and southern hemispheres. It includes in-depth treatment of the mechanical properties of sea ice and icebergs and various analytical approaches to the calculation of static and dynamic ice forces. A special appendix provides three computer programs written in BASIC: analysis of ice forces on conical structures; probabilistic assessment of iceforces; and analysis of the response of simple structural systems under dy namic ice loading. Comprehensive coverage includes specific sections addressing structural icing; local pressures; ice managemenent; ice modelling; ice and structural instrumentation: and the verification of theoretical design approaches by field tests and laboratory experiments. The full array of structural alternatives for Arctic regions - and the special problems inherent wiui eacn - are included: artificial islands and piled and gravity-basedstructures as well as floating structures. Case histories are presented wh ich illustrate the effects of ice loads on a conical production platform, iceberg impact with a semi-submersible and a gravity base structure, and iceinteraction with a flexible pile structure. The wealth of detailed informa tion available in Ice Interaction With Offshore Structures makes it an invaluable resource for those who seek new ways to accommodate the enormous — and ever-shifting - stresses imposed by Arctic conditions on every variety of structure. It is sure to be viewed as an irrepiaceable working tool by every engineer who uses it." (from the dj). Contents : 1. Ice Conditions in the Arctic Offshore. 2. Sea Ice Morphology. 3. Sea Ice Characteristics. 4. Glacial Ice Characteristics. 5. Offshore Structures in Arctic Environments. 6. Approach to Ice Structure Interaction. 7. Static Global Ice Forces on Vertical Structures. 8. Global Ice Forces on Inclined Structures. 9. Dynamic Ice Forces on Offshore Structures. 10. Physical Modeling of Ice-Structure Interaction. 11. Special Topics. 12. Case Histories. Appendices. D. B. Muggeridge was Professor and Chairman of the Ocean Engineering Research Group atthe Memorial University of Newfoundland. Dr. A. B. Commaert was president of his own consulting firm, CAM-ENG Services. Very good in dustjacket. 165.00
