An abolitionist tract released prior to the outbreak of the Civil War, directed more towards juvenile readers, but with a constant message that could have been followed by all, exhibiting the sinfulness of slaveholding in general, promoting the cause through reason and reflection and the brutalizing effects that the practice of slavery has on societies where it had been implemented, rather thanthe gory, harrowing details of any individual case.
