KOPP, Georg. Two Lone Ships "Goeben" & "Breslau"; translated by Arthur Chambers. London: Hutchinson, (1931). Pp 288. Frontis., 34 pages of plates. 8vo, navy blue cloth with gilt lettering to spine. A fascinating first-hand account of the fateful activities of these German/Turkish cruisers and their respective roles in the Mediterranean and Black Sea during the Great War. Perhaps most famous for precipitating war between the Allied powers and Turkey through their surprise bombardment of Sebastopol and Novorossisk, the vessels also precipitated a famous British court martial when the cruisers Indomitable and Indefatigable failed to intercept them in the central Mediterranean at the outset of war with Germany. Spine quite sunned with 1.5-inch split emanating from head, edges dusty with light spotting, bookplate to front pastedown, occasional foxing throughout, gift inscription, else vg. 50.00
