(6),1-76. 8vo, ribbed green cloth with gilt lettering to front and spine, t.e.g. A volume in the True American Types series. A slim biography of Captain Scott, who was an important person in regards to the history, construction, and operation of Race Rock Light near Long Island, New York in the latter part of the nineteenth century. This book deals initially withScott's seven years of underwater work in helping to level off a reef upon which the lighthouse was built; starting in 1871, and reaching completion in 1878. The waters around the makeshift island, long feared fro their treacherous reefs and shoals, and the lighthouse served to make Long Island Sound a safer body of water for shipping that was often subject to its unforgiving seabed.
