BOWEN, Roger NORMAN, Herbert) Innocence is Not Enough : The Life and Death of Herbert Norman. in dj. Douglas & McIntyre, Vancouver, 1986, ISBN:0888944934 BOWEN, Roger. Innocence is Not Enough : The Life and Death of Herbert Norman. Vancouver and Toronto: Douglas & McIntyre, (1986). Pp. (9),10-409,(7). 8vo, grey cloth spine with patterned grey boards, cream lettering to spine. A thoroughly researched biography of one of Canada's most important civil servants in the middle part of the twentieth century. "Initially posted to Japan from 1940-42, [Norman] returned there after the war to work first for American coutner-intelligenc and then as Head of the Canadian Liaison Mission to Occupied Japan, during which time he was very close to General MacArthur." Unfortunately, Norman fell under the gaze of McCarthyism in the laterpart of the '50s, being recalled from his post after repeated accusations of communist activities from the FBI and RCMP, which drove Norman to suicide. Very good in dust jacket. 18.00 Price:
