BULLOCK, William Songs of the Church 1854, BULLOCK, Rev. William. Songs of the Church. Halifax : Printed for the Author, 1854. Pp (6),[5]-235,(3) + errata slip. 8vo, green pressed cloth. TPL 5632, Watters p.29, Rhodenizer p.1016. Not in O'Dea, Lande or Davidson. For Bullock (1797-1874) see ENL I:286, DCB X:110-111, DNLB p.37. Bullock was for about 20 years a missionary in Newfoundland, mainly in the Trinity Bay area and it is safe to assume that many of these verses "written amidst the various scenes of Missionary life," were done before his move to Nova Scotia. For example "We love the place, O Lord" (pp.37-38), later included in Church of England hymnaries, was apparently composed for the opening of a Trinity Bay church. (Both DCB and ENL give "O God" on this point). Waterstain affecting bottom corner of a dozen pages, else a vg, tight copy. 250.00 Price:
