Of Newfoundland interest: "A Ten Mile Dam May Give Canada a New Climate" (pp. 14-15), about a rather ambitious project to build a dam across the strait of Belle Isle, connecting Newfoundland and Labrador, with hopes of diverting the cold Labrador current to the east, allowing the warmer Gulf Stream to swing against the northern coasts. The essay was based on a report in The PopularScience Monthly, published in New York in August. Also of interest: "A Fam ily of Poets" by Rev. C.H. Johnson, pastor of the Cochrane Street MethodistCHurch, St. John's, Newfoundland [on a Mrs Fletcher, a Richard Huntington (who was in Cape Breton from 1843 to 1848) and several other Huntingtons]; W. C. Milner's "The Bay of Fundy: Installment V: Natural Laws of Tidal Rivers (How Obstructions Destroy Waterways)"; W.E. Foster's Justice for the Maritimes" (Walter Edward Foster, [b. April 9, 1873, St. Martins, New Brunswick - d. November 14, 1947, Saint John) the then Premier of New Brunswick); regular sections susch as Random Maritime Notes; The Business Man's Section;and many local adverts throughout.
