" Hezekiah Frith of Bermuda, long known in the islands as the 'Pirate Frith',gave up privateering - but not smuggling - after the loss of his favorite privateer Experiment in 1800. It was the third privateer of Friith's to be taken by the enemy. He had already made and lost one fortune and was in theprocess of making another when he 'came ashore'. By his shrewd and somewha t piratical business methods he amassed the largest fortune in Bermuda and his victims saw no reason why his reputation acquired at sea should not follow him to the grave and beyond. It has been the object of the writer to recount the tales of Frith's career both as a privateer and as a shrewd - andfeared - businessman and legislator. It is true that 'the evil that men do lives after them' but the author has made an effort to prove that all the good has not been interred with the bones of Hezekiah Frith." - from the dj.
