McISAAC, Leo P. COADY, M.M., foreword Blueprint for Community Progress. in dj Saint Dunstan's University, Extension Department, Charlottetown, 1952, McISAAC, Leo P. Blueprint for Community Progress. Charlottetown : Saint Dunstan's University, Extension Department, (1952). Pp [i]-xv,(1),[1]-340,(4). 8vo, blue cloth. "A smooth flowing and interesting account of a study tour in the British Isles and Western Europe in 1951. This report goes on to give a vivid description of the background, the progress and the present situation of the more important social and economic organizations of the people in those countries. Then after careful study the author correlates those experiences with the many similar problems and situations now facing the people of Canada - especially of the Maritime Provinces. Following the story of the trip and an appraisal of trends and conditions at home and abroad in parts I and II, is the thought provoking blueprint suggested in the title." FOWLER, Bertram B. TOMPKINS, J.J.] COADY, M.M.] Lord Helps Those... How the People of Nova Scotia Are Solving Their Problems Through Co-operation. 3rd pr, in dj Vanguard Press, New York, 1938, FOWLER, Bertram B. The Lord Helps Those... How the People of Nova Scotia Are Solving Their Problems Through Co-operation. New York: Vanguard Press, (copyright 1938). Third Printing. THe dust jacket flap has "Special Edition".Pp (8),vii-ix,(3),3-180. 8vo, green cloth, paper label to front board and spine. "Nowhere in the world has the co-operative movement wrought miraclescomparable to those accomplised in Nova Scota. In Sweden, in Denmark, in G reat Britain, and even in our own United States, co-operatives have been successful in reducing the cost of living for their members and raising theirstandard of life. But in Nova Scotia, under the guidance of leaders connec ted with St. Francis Xavier University at Antigonish, co-operation is actually transforming society. Just a few years ago the fishermen, the farmers and the miners of that province were sunk in poverty as wretched at that endured by Southern share-croppers. The fishermen's boats were mortgaged, the farmers were losing their land, and the pittance earned by the miners was barely sufficient to keep their families from starvation. Today the fishermen are freeing themselves of debt and their own canning factories are payingthem a higher rate for their catch than they had ever dreamed of achieving . The farmers are attaining prosperity despite the the agricultural depression elsewhere, and the miners are building their own housing developments, and, through their gardens, partially freeing themselves from their dependence on the mines. Everywhere there is peace, relative prosperity, and good will. A happier day has dawned for Nova Scotia. How this was accomplished, how the movement functions which made this possible, and something of the men responsible for this solid and and amazing success, Mr. Fowler tells in a volume full of meaning for every American tired of "depressions," "booms," and "recessions." - from the dj. Chapters : 1. Renaissance in Acadia; 2. A Prophet with Honor [J.J. Tompkins]; 3. Little Dover [pp.31-49, Guysborough County]; 4. Old Dogs, New Tricks; 5. Homemade Bankers; 6.
