"Martin Nordegg came to Canada in 1906 laden with German investors' money and wandered the cournty like some capitalist Candide looking for a sure thin. He spent his first eveingn, no in some drab hostel, but visinting Sir Wilfrid Laurier. Passing up the chance to speculate in the silver mines at Cobalt, Ontario, he decided to invest in some Alberta coal fields which he discoverd himself, and which could serve the railways. He soon found himself in successful partnership with the notorious promosters of the Canadian Northern Railway, Mackenzie and Mann. Within six years Nordegg had a full-scale coal-mining operation going, complete with its own railway line and its own town which was named after him." Vg in rubbed, nicked dj. 20.00
