Errata slip after title page. 8vo, grey cloth with gilt lettering to front and blank spine. Wattersp.136, Laugher p.378, Rhodenizer p.887. Marshall (1859-1923) "was born in Liverpool, Nova Scotia, and educated there and at Mount Allison Academy, Sackville, New Brunswick. Called to the bar of Nova Scotia in 1881, he practiced law in Bridgewater. From 1898 he was registrar of deeds for the district of Lunenburg." - Rhodenizer. He was included in Arthur S.Bourinot's Five Canadian Poets. Poems include "At the Grave of McPherson (an early Nova Scotian poet)"; "Charles G.D.Roberts"; "Materialism and Spiritualism"; "Keats"; "Shelley"; "Byron"; "Burns"; "Milton"; "Longfellow"; "To a Mayflower"; the long "A Legend of Venice"; & others. The two poems with a clear local setting are the sonnets "Disillusion" with its Liverpudlian Fort Point and "Evening at Pinehurst (South Brookfield)".and bound by C.J.Cragg & Co.". Some wear to spine ends, minor bubbling to boards, light edge-browning, else very good. Presentation copy signed by Marshall on the second blank leaf. Witherrata slip tipped in after title page. 50.00
