Mr. Finnie attempts to capture the lives of the people in the north,the fur traders, missionaries, and Eskimos during the early modern [circa 1930's] contact between the native peoples and the white man. The author does this by presenting a series of true sketches that capture the everyday lives of northern inhabitants of the High Arctic from Herschel Island to King William Island.
