PROUT, Geoffrey. "By Rock and Shoal : Up-Channel by Canoe". A coastal canoing trip from Lyme Regis to Eastbourne made by the author in October, 1937 is documented. With a map of the journey and eight photographs, including one taken of the Queen Mary approaching on the horizon. An article in "Boy's Own Paper", August, 1938, pp. 538-541. Redhill, Surrey: Boy's Own Paper, 1938. Pp. [68]. Illustrated. Double column. 8vo, stapled illustrated paper covers. Colour illustration to the front cover depicts a dashing British Mounted Constable, a member of the British section of the Palestine Police, on horseback. accompanied by an armed Arab galloping into the desert. This illustration accompanies Michael Hook's story "A Day in the Life of a Palestine 'Mountie'", pp. 571-572. Complete with numerous advertisements relating to the war effort in Britain. Some articles of further interest include: a short work of fiction by "Sea-Wrack", entitled "Western Ocean Crossing"; E.L. Roberts' "Memorable Test Cricket", a look at some of England's greatest matches; L. Wilton Stabler's "Scott's Famous Ship"; Sydney Moorhouse's "The Birth of Our Ordinance Survey Maps"; R. H. Hudson's "Angling for Denizens of the Deep", about deep sea fishing.
