EDDISON, E.R. The Worm Ouroboros : A Romance. Illustrated by Keith Henderson. With an Introduction by Orville Prescott. New York : E.P. Dutton & Co., Inc., 1952. First Dutton Edition. Pp [i]-xviii,1-[446]. Illustrated. 8vo, brown cloth, gilt to front board and spine. Erc Rücker Eddison (1882-1945) was an English civil servant and author. The Worm Ouroboros (1922) is a heroic high fantasy novel. The book describes the protracted war between the domineering King Gorice of Witchland and the Lords of Demonland in an imaginary world that appears mainly medieval and partly reminiscent of Norse sagas. Slightly cocked, light wear to spine ends, spine rubbed, bump/tear to bottom edge of back cover, else good to very good. 60.00

3 EDDISON, E.R. HENDERSON, Keith Worm Ouroboros, The. UK no dj. New/Cheaper Edition.
1924,
EDDISON, E.R. The Worm Ouroboros: A Romance. Illustrated by Keith Henderson. London : Jonathan Cape Ltd, (1924). New and Cheaper Edition. This is Eddison's first book, a classic fantasy executed in the style of Malory's Morte d'Arthur but set on the planet Mercury. When published in 1922, despite a small edition, it was poorly received by English readers. The unsold remainder left in the publisher's hands was again offered in 1924, but the original title has been cancelled, and replaced by a newly printed title on very thick paper, neatly pasted in. This is falsely called, "New and Cheaper Edition", on the verso, but it fared no better. Owner's name to ffep, boards lightly worn, hinges starting, endpapers foxed, else a very good mostly unopened copy. 300.00
