" On August 17, 1961, a young trollop walked out of the obscurity of the back alleys of New York City into the equally obscure courtroom of Provincetown, Mass. Tralala was not a flesh and blood creature, but her brief career, lived out on the pages of the Provincetown Review, was so horrendous to the local interpreters of public morality that they brought her to trial."--from the letter by editor William VWard. The text from Selby's work Tralala appears in the front of the Revie w followed by the transcript of The Provincetown Review Trial : Commonwealth of Massachusetts vs William Ward, August 17, 1961. Ward was subsequently found guilty of publishing obscene literature and fined $1000. The verdict was later appealed and a new trial scheduled for the first week of Octobe (later postponed until April). It is noted at the end of the Review that "The Attorney General, after reading the story and transcript of the trial, was of the opinion that it was not obscene within the decisions of the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts and the United States Supreme Court. he therefore has decided to discontinued the case." Some light rust staining atstapled spine, two small burn (?) marks to middle of last page, continuing back through the preceeding 5 pp., some slight nicking to spine ends, cove rs browned, rubbed, else a very good copy. 50.00 Price:
