A somewhat over-determined narrative paralleling the careers of Maury and Henry, using the virtues of one to demonstrate the vanities of the other. The author is a firm partisan for the cause of the Union: for her even Maury's early accomplishments are sullied by his misalliance. Nevertheless, her book does provide a valuable overview of the course of invention in the Civil War, particularly as regards naval development. Vg in slightly rubbed dj. 75.00
