First distant thunder, then a very unusual darkness of an olive green hue, next a tremendous blast of wind, snow, rain, thunder & lightning, which did much damage to barns and outhousesetc, no lives lost. It lasted about 10 minutes. May 25 1847. Took passage the Schooner (illegible) from Bridgeport, for Salem, anchored at the mouth of Por. River & lay all night [...]” .
