PARSONS, Usher. The Life of Sir William Pepperrell, Bart : The only Native of New England who was created a Baronet during our connection with the Mother Country. Boston: Little, Brown and Company, 1855. First US Edition. Pp. 352. With map of Louisburg. 8vo, pressed blue cloth, gilt to spine. This native of Kittery. Maine was not only memorable as the only American to be made a baronet, but also for his commanding of an army of 4000 men who, accompanied by 10 British warships, held the town of Louisburg under seige for 51 days in 1745. Map is foxed, with some waterstaining to the edges, waterstaining to the boards, endpapers and along a narrow band at the top edge of over half the pages, front hinge cracking, spine cloth sunned, ends chipped, some splitting to the front outer hinge, corners well worn, first signature partially detached, else vg. Author's signed gift inscription to the title page. 240.00
