Goose Lane Editions, Fredericton, NB, 1995, ISBN:0864921454
THOMPSON, John. John Thompson : Collected Poems and Translations . Edited by Peter Sanger. (Fredericton, NB): Goose Lane Editions, (1995). Pp. (12).13-288. Illustrated. 8vo, illustrated grey card covers. A collection of the works of the New Brunswicker. Published posthumously. "John Thompson's shortlife was as dramatic as his poetry. A protege of A.J.M. Smith and a charis matic professor at Mount Allison University, Thompson was admired by poets becoming prominent in the 1970s -- Margaret Atwood, D.G. Jones, Patrick Lane, Michael Ondaatje, and Phyllis Webb. Thomposon's work continues to inspire poets such as Diana Brebner, Allan Cooper, Heather Browne Prince, Martin Singleton, and Eric Trethewey, and, through them, a third generation of young writers. In [this anthology], Peter Sanger brings togehter Thompson's two books, 'At the Edge of the Chopping There Are No Secrets' and 'Stilt Jack'. He adds poetry published only in periodicals, unpublished poetry, and Thompson's haunting translations from several of his French Canadian contemporaries and the great French poet Rene Char." - from the rear cover. Vg. Signed, inscribed, and dated by Sanger on the half-title leaf, and signed without inscription on the title page. 40.00
