"Garry Melsted has just finished high school and, instead of going to university, is "leaving the midwestern city of Winnipeg with its winter sports, and his girl friend Glenda, for the cold, backbreaknig, and often dangerous job of winter fishing on Lake Winnipeg." Cold Adventure is the story of Garry's adventures during this winter of icefishing. It is the story of Garry and Bergur caught on an ice floe in the lake, of near death in a bombardier as it almost slipped into a crevice in the ice, of the mystery of the Boss' stolen money, of the searcn for Tim and Nick lost on the lake. During the winter Garry learned not only the pleasures and hazards of ice fisfnng, but also great respect and affection for the young men with whom he worked. "They appeared rough, tough, and carelessand they were all that, but they were also kind and understanding.... Garr y thought about the Boss who, in spite of what had happened to his son, hadforgiven Tim and offered him a second chance. "It was men like these, fish ermen of Canadian lakes whom he (Garry) was going to have in mind when he worked as a fish biologist and ichthyologist." (from the dj).
