"A garden was one of the seven wonders of the ancient world; here is the story of one which would certainly rank high in a modern list of marvels. It all began when Mr Nichols moved from the country to London. The house he selected was charming; but the garden! Memories of Allways became almost too poignant at the sight of that grisly little patch of ground behind the house. But a transformation scene followed. After hundreds of plans had been drawn and rejected, when the awkward three-sidedplot seemed an Eternal Triangle that could not be reduced to a more seemly shape, some wizardry did the trick. Turf was laid, trees appeared, the fra grance of the flowers began to fill the air. But then there were the neighbours, and especially Mrs Heckmondwyke. When an ingenious domed greenhouse was introduced, the question of Ancient Lights raised its hoary head, adn the trouble really began. Luckily the battle of wits and wills went in favourof Mr Nichols; and those who read his account of how the city grew green a nd gay as the garden of Allways will surely agree unanimously that the bestman won." - from the dustjacket. Slightly cocked, name pencilled to flylea f, else very good in lightly rubbed, nicked, corner-trimmed (but not price-clipped) dustjacket. 50.00
