Vito Dumas (September 26, 1900 – March 28, 1965) was an Argentine single-handed sailor and was awarded the Slocum Prize. "Vito Dumas is an Argentinian who madeone of the most remarkable single-handed voyages ever recorded in the hist ory of small boat voyaging. His book Alone Through the Roaring Forties was first publislhed in Spanish [as Los cuarenta bramadores]: : La Vuelta al Mundo Por la "Ruta Imposible"] and then in French. [...] He describes his great voyage round the world through the roaring forties which he justly describes as "The impossible route". He broke four records: he was the first lone navigator to round the Horn and survive; the first to round the Horn fromWest to East; the first (and probably the last) to sail by the "impossible route"; and he is the only one to have sailed round the globe with only th ree landfalls." - from the dj.
