PROULX, David (text). Pardon my lunch bucket : a look at the new Hamilton--with a bit of old thrown in. Design [by] Joe Urban. (Hamilton, Ontario Cor p. of the City of Hamilton,), [1971?]. Pp (150). Illustrated. Square 4to, cream cloth, gilt lettering to front board and spine. A pictorial book celebrating the 125th anniversary of the city of Hamilton, Ontario. "Somewhere along the line, there comes a time when every elected body must decide what shape its city will take in the future. It's not a particularly happy time for the politicians because there are a lot of votes and a lot of the taxpayers' money inmvolved. And no matter what the decision, it's not goinmg to please everyone. Nevertheless, the city council of Hamilton made that decision or rather series of decisions when it gave the final approval to the Lloyd D. Jackson Square project and massive downtown renewal. The city that was long known for its heavy industry and accompanying heavy smog was going to havp a new look in the downtrodden downtown area. And it was about time. "Pardon My Lunch Bucket", the story of the city as it was, as it is and how it will look in the future, tells you about that agonizing decision and how the council faced it. It tells you of the new face that the city is putting on. It shows in pictures what the city has to offer in the way of major attractions. Both its good points and its bad ones." (from the dj).
