McALEER, J.Philip. A Pictorial History of St. Paul's Anglican Church, Halifax, Nova Scotia. (Halifax : TUNS Resource Centre Publications, 1993). Pp (10),11-160. Double column. Illustrated. Square 8vo, ilustrated purple and blue trade paperback. "St. Paul's has often been hailed as 'the oldest Protestant Church in Canada' and is also in part the oldest building in Halifax. Framed in Boston and erected in Halifax during 1750, the original building incorporated a unique blending of the styles of celebrated British architects Sir Christopher Wren and James Gibbs. Over the years the church has beena prominent fixture of the community, generating a wealth of pictorial and documentary references, many of which fortunately have survived. Thus, and despite a history of modifications, St. Paul's, today, remains an importan t building both in terms of the history of Halifax architecture and of churches built in the New World in the Wren-Gibbs traditions." -from the rear cover.
