With fourteen photographs. 4to, blue card covers, black titles to front and spine. A study based on fieldwork conducted by the author in the Maritime provinces during 1968-69, discussing thereasons why people seek out faith healers, as well as the motivation for b ecoming a faith healer. Whereas there are some legitimate "healers" in small communities where regular medical treatment is often difficult to obtain, there are also those whose intentions are not so honourable. Several secti ons of dialogue between resident healer "Uncle" JimGallagher (he of the miraculous vibrating left hand which promises to cure all forms of illness merely by touching the afflicted area) and the author and various local residents reveals that perhaps "Uncle" Jim might be more interested in administering to the local female population for reasons other than the threat of thespread of disease. As he states several times "It's worse for a woman than 'tis for a man!" and quickly advises the men to send their wives to him so he may "cure" them of any and all diseases, in particular, eczema.
