"On 10 April 1930 Mason and his wife, Annette, started out from Puerto Bories on an two-month cruise in the chartered steam launch Violeta. They had a crew of four including, a Sicilian captain, Felice Rando, a Dal matian seaman, Natalio Filipic, a greek engineer named Juan, and a Chilean ship's boy, Isidoro. They explored the CHilean waterways below the Golfo dePenas as far north as Estero Eyre, then turned south, passed outside Islas Hanover, took the inside route to the western end of the Strait of Magella n, and passed through to Punta Arenas. The boats boiler tubes began breaking loose as they entered the Strait, and only heroic efforts by Juan kept the boat going. The boiler failed completely 200 yards short of the mole at Punta Arenas. A well written and well illustrated account." - Toy. Minor white speckling to cloth, lacking ffep, else vg. 60.00
