Plus black-and-white illustrat ions. Large 8vo, illustrated white card covers, printed in black, French flaps. “the old chapbooks were the first periodical literature. They published such entertaining moralities as dick whittington, and many lyrics and rhymes. The meanest of them carried at least two prints from woodblocks. In this first australian chapbook is collected stories, poems, and attitudes, decorated with lino-cuts.” - from the title page. Contents : “Gardarenes” by Leslie Meller; 4 poems by Robert Brewster-Jones (Poem – Labour Exchange -Pear Tree – A Mood); “Revolution – as from Hollywood” by Murray Tonkin; “Z eitgeist” (a poem by Allan Francis); 3 poems by Rex Ingamells (The present and the past I and II – Evening in the macdonnels); “Islands” by Allan Francis; “The yacca” by Eleanor Skipper. With prints by Noel Wood (colour and black-and-white), Marjorie Gwynne, Rex Wood, Mary P. Harris (colour), Ruby Henty, Grace Cooper, and Margaret Stevens. This is the first of only two issues of this magazine. This edition is limited to 500 copies, this being number 53, with tipped-in colour frontis signed and numbered “53/500 Promenade. Noel W.” Edgeworn, covers spotted and smudged, spotting and/or soiling to endpapers and lower margins, rusty staples, else very good. Scarce. 350.00
