Illustrated. 8vo, blue card covers. "'Life on Brier Isl and' is 66 stories and 197 photos that tell about the way life was and is on this most westerly bit of land in Nova Scotia, Canada. Brier Island consists of 2200 acres of land, mostly rock, surrounded by the mighty Bay of Fundy, St. Mary's Bay and Grand Passage. About 350 people live on the Island which has been settled since 1763. In 'Life on Brier Island' you will meet Bill Buckman, the fish splitter; Viola Garron who at age 90 swears by the cold cream she uses ever night; Myrna Garron who worked in the fish plant office for 51 years. There are photos of lobster boats, whale-watch boats and fish draggers. There are interviews with fishermen and reports of ships lost at sea. Every story and photo gives insight into the Brier Island way of life and how it is changing. Fishing is becoming less important. Tourism, mainly whale-watching, is becoming more important.
