July 13, 2017, Halifax) was professor of Sociology and Criminology at Saint Mary's University, Halifax at the time of publication. Chapters: 1. Going to Blazes: The Social Economy of Arson; 2. Poaching vs. the Law: The Social Organization of Illegal Fishing. 3. Toxic Steel: State-Corporate Crime and the Contamination of the Environment. This book examines "unconventional" crimes in Atlantic Canada. Chapter 1 reports a higher than Canadian average incidence of arson inNova Scotia, New Brunswick, and PEI though the article itself focuses on N ova Scotia, both in the declining rural communities and more highly populated area of Halifax - Dartmouth. In Chapter 2, Poaching vs the Law, the authors examine lobster poaching in small coastal communities in Nova Scotia. Chapter 3 focuses on the Sydney Tar Ponds, one of the worst man-made environmental disasters in North America. Very good.
