1 UNITED STATES-CONGRESS) House of Representatives. Colonial Trade and Fisheries-Coast of British Provinces.
GPO, 1869,
(UNITED STATES-CONGRESS). Colonial Trade and Fisheries-Coast of British Provinces. Letter from the Secretary of the Treasury, in answer to A resolution of the House of the 5th instant, transmitting report of E.H. Derby, relative to the fisheries on the ccoast of the British provinces. [40th Congress, 3d Session. House of Representatives. Ex. Doc. No. 120]. (Washington: Government Printing Office, 1869). Pp 54. 8vo, disbound, stitched. A fascinating assessment of the state of trade in the Maritime provinces of British North America in the immediate wake both of Confederation and of the end of Reciprocity. The author is distinctly hostile to the former Canadas and sympathetic to the anti-Confederate sentiment then blossoming in Nova Scotia, including as an appendix the repeal petition of William Annand's Executive Council to the Lieutenant Governor of the province. One sentence may have caught the author's particular interest: "Canada may sell, or in any manner dispose of our invaluable fisheries, which are in reality a part of our territory." Black mark to fore edge, else vg. Disbound. 100.00
