3 LAWSON, William, Mrs. PIERS, Harry, ed. History of the Townships of Dartmouth, Preston and Lawrencetown, Halifax County, Nova Scotia
Morton & Co., Halifax , 1893,
LAWSON, William, Mrs. History of the Townships of Dartmouth, Preston and Lawrencetown; Halifax County, N.S. (Akins Historical Prize Essay). Edited by Harry Piers. Halifax : Morton & Co., 1893. Pp (2),[iii]-vi,(2),[1]-260,frontispiece. 8vo, green cloth. Morley p.100, Rhodenizer p.565. “In writing the history of townships like Dartmouth, Preston, and Lawrencetown, the author , owing to the narrowness of the field, has frequently to treat of subjects which would not be touched in a more comprehensive account. This necessity of dealing with minutiae leads to the introduction of tales and other minor traditions, which often have greater interest than a less particular narrative, as the details of a novel possess more charms than a discription [sic] of the plot alone or a mere résumé of the story. The annals of Dartmouthand its sister townships, contain several tales of a by-gone age, whose recital has often brought tears to humble eyes and which may yet have a charm for a more general and critical audience.” - from the Preface.
