James Macdonald Oxley was a "Canadian author, born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, 22 October, 1855. He was educated at Halifax grammar-school, and graduated at Dalhousie university in 1874, studied law at Harvard in 1876-'7, and in 1879 obtained the degree of LL. B. from the University of Halifax. He was admitted to the bar of Nova Scotia in 1878, and practised in Halifax from 1879 till 1883. He acted as an officialreporter in the house of assembly in 1881-'3, and in the latter year becam e attached to the Dominion department of marine and fisheries.
