(Quebec Bridge). Advantages of a Bridge at Quebec. (To the Editor of the Quebec Morning Chronicle.) (Quebec : Quebec Morning Chronicle, 1887). Broadside (approx 7 by 18 inches), printed one side only on pale blue-grey paper. A broadside reproducing three letters to the Quebec Morning Chronicle, signed “M.” and dated 27th December 1886, 3rd January 1887, and 22nd February 1887, along with an excerpt from the Halifax Critic (undated). These lettersurge the building of a bridge across the St. Lawrence River between Levis and Quebec City. First proposed in 1852, the idea was periodically revived until the beginning of the 20th century, wen construction began. The first design collapsed in 1907, the second design collapsed in 1911, and the bridge was finally opened in 1919. Sanford Fleming is quoted in the third letter as saying “that the railway system of the Dominion will always be incomplete until the St. Lawrence is bridged at Quebec.” The Halifax Critic excerpt states “With a bridge at Quebec our shippers would have two railways competing for business, with the results that freight to or from Halifax or St.John would be delivered in less than one-half the time it now takes.” Fold ed twice, else a pristine copy of Quebec Bridge ephemera. 200.00
