BRUCE, Charles. Personal Note. Toronto / Halifax : The Ryerson Press, (1941). First Edition. Pp (8),1-8. 8vo, tan stapled card covers, lettered in black. Watters, p.27, Wallace, The Ryerson Imprint, p.105. “The author's royalties from the sale of this book have been assigned to the Navy League of Canada to assist in the maintenance of hostels for merchant seamen. --- To Sam Robertson, Canadian Press War Correspondent, Lost at Sea through Enemy Action, 1941. --- Personal Note is just that. It was written to express the belief of one individual and is published with the idea that others may be interested, and may perhaps find some purpose in seeking to define for themselves their own faith. It is not intended as a war poem but is meant to apply to living generally. In construction the aim is clarity.” Charles Bruce was born in 1906 in Port Shoreham, Nova Scotia. He graduated from Mount Allison University in 1927 and then joined the Canadian Press, working in Halifax, Toronto, and London, England. Bruce died on 19 December 1971 in Toronto. Personal Note was his third book of poetry. Very good. Scarce. 150.00
