The name has been derived from Greek Mythology, Urania being the m use of astronomers and protectress of sailors. The ship's coat of arms depicts the celestial sphere and zodiac. The motto 'Caveo non timeo' means 'Vigilant but fearless'. The present HNLMS Urania, fourth in succession with this name, was built in 1928 by 'Haarlemse Scheepsbouw Maatschappij' as a private yacht named Tromp. Originally she was schooner type with a 'wishbone' rigging. In 1937 she was bought by the Royal Netherlands Navy and was commissioned on the 23rd of April 1938. In the sixties her rigging was changed into the present 'Bermuda Ketch' type. With registration H31, she is undisputed the 'Grand Old Lady' of the Dutch classic sharp yachts.” - from the back cover.
