"Beginning with the electric tram cars in 1904 and continuing with motor busses, [Leonard Tilley Flaherty] joined the towns of Westville, Stellarton, New Glasgow, and Trenton into an urban whole, separated onlyby four municipal governments. The principal beneficiary of his work was, during his lifetime, and is at the present, the business community of New Glasgow. His tram cars brought the people of Trenton, Stellarton, and Westville on Saturday nights to the area's centre -- downtown New Glasgow -- and thereby established a pracise in East Pictou that has persisted for nearly seventy years." - from p.
