September 1, 1941, Toronto – d. November 29, 1987, Toronto) was a Canadian poet and novelist. "Akhenaton -- pharoah of Egypt, visionary, and heretic -- was a victim of the lonely purity of his obsession. There were many who hated him and a few who loved him because of it. Tiy, his suffocatingly possessive mother, went too far in attempting to use her unnatural love to bind him more closely to her. Neferetiti, his beautiful andmuch-loved queen, was driven to betrayal. The philosophic Ay, who both lov ed and hated the king, was forced to commit the final act of loyalty and violence. The mystic Akhenaton believed that there was only one god, Aton. He tried to live a life of truth and love in the light of Aton, but the brilliance of his dream blinded him to the dangerous consequences of his extreme actions. He closed the temples of the old people and their powerful priests. His own courtiers and his army intrigued against him. When he ignored this internal dissension, insulted his allies, and refused to send troops to defend his frontiers, he doomed Egypt as well as himself." - from rear cover. Covers lightly rubbed, else very good. Signed without inscription by MacEwen on the title page. 50.00
