Akron,Ohio / New York : The Saalfield Publishing Company, (copyright 1938). Pp ( 6),11-91,(1). Illustrated. 4to, black cloth spine, yellow lettering to spine, colour illustrated paper covered boards. “In an igloo on the northwestern shore of Greenland lives Arklio, a little Polar Eskimo boy. Here too livehis sister Tooky, his father, a great hunter, and his mother. Arklio has n o fear of the deepening twilight for he spends it learning the arts of a hunter. Long hours find him on the ice, training his dog team. Often he dreams of the day when his father, Sipsoo, will declare him skillful enough to hunt mighty Ahwik, the walrus. In winter, when the moon is full, comes the visiting season, a time of feasts and dancing. Then, when the sun appears again on the rim of their world, hunting begins. Food must be stored away against the days when all living things hide from Torngak, the Evil Spirit of the cold. Sometimes Arklio forgets his coming manhood and plays children's games with is little sister. They race with Poody, the husky puppy, or spend long summer days lying on the lichen-draped rocks like little seals sunning themselves. Polar Boy is so skillfully written that one lives Arklio's adventures with him, and comes to really know the strange land he calls home.” - from the dj. Some wear to spine ends and corners, slightly cocked, else good to very good in edgeworn and chipped and otherwise very striking dustjacket. 40.00
