"But few prefatory remarks are necessary in presenting the Seventh Edition of the Canadian Parliamentary Companion to its friends and patrons. Since its last issue there have been many changes, both at Ottawa and in the several Provinces of the Dominion. Manitoba and British Columbia have entered the Union, and in each of these a Government has been formed, and members have been elected by the people to the House of Commons and the Local Assembly. In Ontario, Quebec, and Nova Scotia, general elections have taken place; and, whilst in the first named Provinces complete change has been effected, in Nova Scotia a reconstruction of the Government has been deemed necessary. With regard to changes of minor importance, the Editor refers the reader to the pages of the Companion, with an honest conviction that, as he has faithfully and fairly recorded all matters and things coming within its scope, the book will continue to be received with the same approbation and encouragement which have been extended to it since its first publication, ten years ago." (Notice, pp 5-6).
