"The Spray, built and ownedby Duncan and Angus Matheson, was a brigcmtine of 107 tons. She was used a s a mail packet between Halifax and Bermuda, with Angus Matheson as master and Duncan Matheson mate. She sailed Irom Big Bras D'Or on 10th January, 1857, with John Duncan, master, arriving at Auckland on 25th June, 1857. Sne carried 93 passengers, but off Cape of Good Hope Mrs Angus Mathescn gave birth to her second child, Alexander. Minaret IMrs Moore), daughter of Mrs Alex McKenzie, was also born during the voyage." "The Ellen Lewis was a barque of 336 tons, belonging to Wm. Ross. She was built at Sydney, Cape Breton.On 1st December, 1859, she sailed from St. Ann's and arrived at Auckland 1 4th May, 1860. This was the only ship to carry a medical officer, Dr. Elmsley.
