JOHNSTON, Douglas M., and Hungdah CHIU. Agreements of the People's Republicof China, 1949-1967 : A Calendar. Harvard Studies in East Asian Law 3. Cam bridge, Massachusetts : Harvard University Press, 1968. First Edition. Pp (6),v-xvii,(3),1-286,(4). Index. 8vo, grey cloth, silver lettering to spine."The People's Republic of China has so far entered into treaty relations, in one form or another, with no fewer than seventy-one countries. This valuable book presents a chronological listing of all reported agreements concluded by the People's Republic in its first eighteen years of existence, up to September 30,1967. In attempting to be exhaustive, the editors have searched all available public documents issued by the People's Republic and itstreaty partners, and a wide variety of semiofficial and unofficial publica tions in Chinese, English, and a dozen other languages. Instead of confining themselves to a strict legal definition of an international agreement, they have included all official and semiofficial exchanges of commitments. Their compilation lists, therefore, not only the more formal documents such as agreemerits, but also other forms such as communiques, minutes, executiveplans, and some important contracts. Since fewer than two-fifths of the en tries in this calendar have been published so far in Peking's own treaty series thie work represents the most complete listing of Communist Chinese agreements in print."
