"A History of the County of Antigonish is concerned partly with the early settlement of the different districts of the county, and partly with the genealogy of the families who settled in the county. An attempt has been made to include in the first part what must interest every one who wants to know the history of Canada as a whole, but also each section of it. The struggles of French, Scotch, English, and Empire Loyalists to make homes for themselves and bring up families are herein related with a sympathy born of great love of the human element that entered into it. There is also shown the work a great desire to place before the younger generation the example of pioneers whose deeds are worthy of emulation. It is the only history of the County so far written, and it will be read by many not only in the County of Antigonish, but everywhere throughout Canada, the United States, and the Old Land."
