"This volume takes its title Irom the first gr oup of poems contained in it, which are distinctively Canadian in theme. These poems were read before the Royal Society of Canada at its meeting in Ottawa in 1938. It is scarcely necessary to point out that the word "Unconquerable" in the title is not used in its literal sense, but is intended to suggest something of the national spirit of the Canadian people. A number of the poems in this volume are written in free verse, which usually permits of greater freedom of expression and more emotional treatment than ordinary rhymed verse. " - from the dj.
