A very useful reference with much greater description than the other bibliographies of our region.

“This book is the first in a series of comprehensive bibliographies which are the result of a widespread and growing interest in Canadian Local History. In scope, the series includes all monographic local histories printed up to 1950 for those areas of Canada not already covered by similar bibliographies. […]

The Atlantic Provinces is not only a work of reference but also a bibliographical study. It is invaluable as a source of information not only to historians or those who are mainly interested in the history of their home towns or native regions, but also to librarians, booksellers, collectors, and textual editors. These latter will find the careful descriptions of editions, issues, and variants particularly useful, and those wishing to pursue their inquiries by means of an actual copy of a local history will appreciate the location symbols given at the end of each entry.

Titles are conveniently arranged by author under the name of the appropriate community, region, or province. An outline of the arrangement and a geographical index faciliate quick reference, and a general index is appended. There is also a list of bibliographical sources, and appropriate facsimile illustrations enliven the text.” – from the jacket.
